A
LITTLE HISTORY.....We were fortunate enough to discover
YuPing and ChenFeng several years ago (2001)…..on our very first trip to
China! Michael was doing a ‘hotel job’ in Wuhan…..not exactly a “tourist
destination’ for westerners, unless of course you want to see where small
household
appliances are made! Well, upon arriving at the hotel in the
very early hours of the morning, our initial walk around the lobbies and
corridors of the hotel provided out first glimpse at the wonderful work by YuPing and husband ChenFeng.
The next day…..we assigned the
mission of contacting the artists to the
hotel’s Concierge. And when he
did.....we were able to speak
directly to YuPing, as she is a very adept
at English! Plans were then laid to go visit their studio / home.
After a ‘memorable’ taxi ride (actually… several! But that’s another
story entirely!), we arrived at their apartment. We were treated to tea
laden with small flowers, and of course got to see more of their fabulous
array of work!!! It was EVERYWHERE!
Becoming fast friends, we all
returned to our hotel, were
entertained by daughter Sunshine's intrigue
with the elevator (she was all of 8 at the time), lunched together and
discussed the world of art in modern day China. And so it was that we
purchased our first two paintings from them. And the seed was planted to
bring YuPing and ChenFeng to Orcas.
That spring… we received our first
collection of paintings from the couple. Their work having met with
instant excitement, we included YuPing and Chen Feng in our summer
Painter’s Show for 2001! And so it began…..we featured YuPing and Chen
Feng’s work again in subsequent shows, and ‘headlining’ their works in
their exhibitions of 2004 and 2005. In fact…
YuPing was able to come
to Orcas for her show in 2004, and both her and Chen Feng were here in
2005.....along with Sunshine!!! (she now attends Four Winds Camp!!). The
highlight of the 2005 Show had to be the very special paintings the team
painted while here on Orcas.....s collection of paintings of Orcas' most
loved scenes. They were a huge hit… and a fast sell-out!
And so it is that the couple’s work
has become a mainstay at Crow Valley Pottery! Among of our favorites
anywhere!!!
