A long way to Crow Valley… Norm found his way to Crow Valley in a very unusual manner……  Seems his daughter had been in the shop… and INSTANTLY thought that her father’s work would be perfect here!  One itsy bitsy little detail however; Norman lived (and painted) in Ohio!!  So we all enjoyed the proverbial “three way”….  Norman’s daughter talking to him;  Norman e-mailing us, and then us communicating back with Norman to make arrangements to show his work!

First unveiled to Orcas Island at our 2006 Garden Art Show…  Norman had a popular and successful formula… combining pen and ink with watercolor, add a bit of his whimsical sense of humor, and create fabulous works in big, bright formats!  His mainstay is vibrant florals—big, bright, velvety flowers that are ‘in your face’!!  The pedals, leaves and stamens are bigger that life, and detailed beyond belief.  Another favorite is Norman’s rendition of vegetables as landscape elements--- VERY fun!!!  Broccoli trees, carrot stalks, set against a pastoral backdrops.  Certainly individual, definitely different!

Norman, having come to Orcas for the summer of 2005, of course loved the island and was immediately inspired by it’s scenery and beauty.  He quickly decided to evolve into a style new to him—landscapes.  Even better… Orcas landscapes!  Norman then asked if we’d possibly be able to squeeze a few of his works into the Home and Abroad Show.  And upon seeing the work, the answer was a resounding “Of course!”

So in addition to Norman’s big, bright florals… we also show a good variety of these new landscapes; often works of Orcas Island Landmarks… Clark’s Farm, the Crow Valley, West Sound.   Nicely framed, we are certainly happy we were introduced, and proud to show his paintings!

And Norman is one of the few artists we show that we also offer prints.  These prints are very, very nicely done, and already matted!  Naturally, the offerings of Norman’s originals and prints varies constantly, so contact us for current selection please.
